Summer Presence

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

Hi Friend

I hope you are enjoying this summer as it unfolds!

Having grown up in Western New York where summer days often do go by in the blink of an eye, I know how it is to look back at the end of the season, when temperatures shift and routines resume, feeling as though it wasn't enough, that I want more... What about you, ever felt this way?

For me, that 'blink of an eye' feeling has all too often occurred with seasons, week-long trips, weekends and even single days.

As many of you know, this summer I have embarked on a month long, work~life integration road trip from Miami to and through much of New York State. Along the way, I've had the good fortune of attending a workshop @ the Omega Institute, enjoying visits with family & friends, drives through farmlands and hills, boating and swimming in the lakes and time with clients.

These are the days I want to be fully immersed in, to feel and experience in real time. AND when it's over, it is my intention that I do not look back wishing for more but rather that I look back with an open heart, in gratitude, knowing that this summer had many moments of enjoyment and a deep sense that it was enough.

Being tuned into the felt sensations of my body and breath helps me to cultivate this outcome.

This is a practice I began learning in 2007 when a little book, Arriving at Your Own Door by Jon Kabat-Zinn literally jumped off the shelf at me while perusing a Barnes and Nobles. Since that time it has opened the door to a shift in my relationship with the moments that pass as I move through time. Opening me to deeper presence and gratitude - which for me is a true gift.

What are your favorite "go-to's" this summer for being present, aware and more fully immersed in the curious passage of time? If you have a moment to share, I'd love to hear from you!
